About Oriole Park at Camden Yards
Anyone who’s been to more than a couple ballparks and is sick of the retro-style Major League Baseball stadiums can thank Camden Yards. The green seats and the red brick theme can now be found at ballparks around the country, and all were erected within the next 20 years after Oriole Park opened in 1992 in downtown Baltimore. No need for that retro experience to extend toward Orioles parking though.
For years, the beauty of the ballpark was far superior to the product put out on the field. Since back-to-back American League Championship in the late 90s led by 19-time all-star Cal Ripken, Jr., the Orioles drowned in a sea of hopelessness. The AL East transformed into a two-horse race between the Yankees and Boston with the Orioles finishing no better than 4th place in the five-team division for 13 of the next 14 seasons. A run of four consecutive last-place finished set the stage for a 2012 season in which neither an Orioles ticket nor a Camden Yards parking spot was a hot item.
Out of nowhere, Baltimore burst onto the scene in 2012 as a competitor in baseball’s toughest division, edging out Tampa Bay for the fifth and final wild card spot. The Orioles shut out the Rangers in Texas, 1-0, in a tense one-game playoff to move onto the Division Series, where fans amassed for Baltimore Orioles parking and a hometown playoff game for the first time in 15 seasons. Baltimore pushed the No. 1-seeded Yanks to the brink of elimination, but fell in the decisive game 5 to bow out of the playoffs.
Baltimore’s newfound success hasn’t been short-lived, as the Orioles success carries on in 2013. The attendance numbers have risen and Orioles parking downtown continues to congest. There’s no big outdoor stadium lot surrounding the ballpark to bank on, meaning ParkWhiz can help drivers browse and choose a lot or garage based on proximity and price, and give them a destination to park in with confidence.
