Within Miami’s Central Business District is the James L. Knight Center, one of Greater Miami’s most functional meeting, exhibit and entertainment venues. The complex is a venue for business, entertainment and political events, so it is a must to book James L. Knight parking ahead of time with ParkWhiz. The venue was built in 1982 by James L. Knight, a famous newspaper publisher and co-founder of the Knight Ridder group of newspapers. The complex is designed to ease and stretch its capacity with 34 meeting rooms, a 444-seat auditorium, 117-seat lecture hall and a 4,650-seat theatre that can be configured to allocate attendees to a specific event. Owned by the City of Miami and managed by SMG, the James L. Knight Center has hosted many business, entertainment and political events such as the annual Miami Dade College graduation ceremonies. Other events include pageant competitions, such as the Miss Universe in 1984 and 1985, Miss USA in 1986 and Miss Teen USA in 1985 and the Spanish singing competition the OTI Festival in 1989. While James L. Knight Center has been primarily used for concerts, it became the original home of the annual Premios Lo Nuestro Latin music awards ceremony from 1993 to 2003. The venue still hosts sports, festivals, concerts and convention events, which is why it is advisable to book James L. Knight Center parking in advance with ParkWhiz to avoid hassles.
