Located in Foxboro, MA, Gillette Stadium is home to the New England Patriots and the New England Revolution. Prior to the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, the Patriots were an AFL team, founded in 1959 as the Boston Patriots. The team changed the name in 1971 to New England and moved into their previous venue, Foxboro Stadium. As time went on, the venue became one of the league’s smallest stadiums, necessitating the need for a new one. After opening as CMGI field in 2002, the name was changed to Gillette Stadium in 2005.
