America's Cup Pavilion Parking
Live rock music isn’t the first thing you’d think of when a boat race is brought up, but for the America’s Cup Pavilion, it would make perfect sense. The America’s Cup regatta takes place in San Francisco, with live music and classic bands, bringing the party to a storied and regal sport. That being said, finding America’s Cup Pavilion parking spaces will be difficult once the races have begun, so it is best to book parking for America’s Cup Pavilion in advance.
The America’s Cup Pavilion is a temporary venue constructed on San Francisco’s Embarcadero, at Piers 27/29. Seating 9,000 people, the venue is planned to last the entirety of the summer season, often with some events planned as far as October. Musical guests that have already played include Imagine Dragons, the Doobie Brothers, the San Francisco Symphony, the Jonas Brothers, Sting, Weezer, Fall Out Boy and Steely Dan. In order to understand why bands like Counting Crows and Train are playing for a boat race, it makes sense to take a look at the America’s Cup itself.
The race traces its’ history back to 1851, when an American named John Cox Stevens and his New York Yacht Club defeated the UK’s Royal Yacht Squadron in a competition for a trophy named the R.Y.S. £100 Cup, using a ship appropriately named “America.” The New York Yacht Club brought the trophy back with them to the United States, and established a trust for the trophy through a legal instrument called a “Deed of Gift,” which set up the rules for the race. The purpose of the race was to encourage friendly rivalry between countries, which would assist in raising the sport’s popularity.
